Phiwani Khaka
Phiwani is a co-founder and is an experienced banker with 15 years experience in Corporate and Investment Banking, Commercial Banking, Private Banking and Asset Finance. Since leaving banking 5 years ago Phiwani has been involved in advisory, capital raising and unlisted investing. He gained corporate experience at Absa Capital, Nedbank Business Banking and First Rand Group where he was involved in deal sourcing, structuring and execution. He is currently also a Director at Greentree Health, Ekosource and Black Horse Investments.
Matthew Hallowes
Matthew is a co-founder and Principal of the Fund. He started his career as a small cap analyst with a boutique investment firm before taking a number of senior Portfolio Manager roles within Investec Securities and RMB. Prior to joining Ironside Investments, he was Head of Standard Bank Fund Solutions, a multi-manager business, serving on many investments, risk and governance committees within the Standard Bank Group. His previous experience included leading Standard Bank Wealth Advisory and holding the position of Regional Head for Sanlam Private Investment (SPI), Southern Cape. Matthew is currently a director of Ironside Wealth and Investments, Ironside Real Estate and Green Tree Health.
Mpho Sago
Mpho is a seasoned professional with over 20 years experience in the Financial Services sector. He has originated, executed and exited numerous landmark transactions in the listed and unlisted equity, mezzanine, senior debt lending and M&A space. Mpho gained his corporate experience at FNB, Deloitte, Standard Bank & Sanlam Investments where his roles entailed deal origination, financial modelling, due-diligences, equity investments, debt funding and strategy. He has provided financial investment and operational guidance serving on numerous investee company main boards and related sub-committees including investment committee Remco and Audit.
Gideon Trope
Gideon was a Founding member of Ironside Investments. Ironside is a private equity and investment company, with roots in South African and global real estate. It co-invests with its equity and operational partners in sectors that provide growth, sustainability and utility. Gideon has been involved in property leasing, development for over 17 years working at Retail Africa and Broll. Gideon was a founding partner in the establishment of Lodestone Private Equity Investments which sought to acquire and effectively mange real estate throughout South Africa. Lodestone was subsequently bought by Fortress Income Fund and Gideon was retained to assist with Greenbay Property offshore direct property expansion. Gideon is currently the CEO of Ironside Investments and Ironside Real Estate he is also a director of Greentree Health and Brooklyn Frail Centre.
Dr Avron Urison
Dr. Avron Urison qualified as a Medical Doctor he has worked both locally and internationally in clinical practice, as well as in healthcare business strategy consulting. Until 2002, he was the CEO of MRI (Medical Rescue International) involved in establishing medical emergency response businesses in South Africa and in the African continent. He was one of the founders and medical director of AllLife from 2004-2018, a company that designs, distributes and administers niche life insurance products, for individuals living with HIV and diabetes. He has been involved as a founder and director in businesses in the South African healthcare sector focusing on establishing a national group of primary health care centers as well as a company delivering hospital insurance products. He is currently the Chief Medical Officer for Telesure Investment Holdings and a director of Care Kahle Clinics.
